Witnessing of Signatures in Dubai and UAE
What is Witnessing of Signatures in Dubai and other Emirates?
Documents must be signed in front of and seen by attorneys or solicitors in a variety of jurisdictions across the globe in order to confirm the signer’s identity. When inhabitants of Dubai and the other UAE cities want to conduct a transaction outside of the country, they frequently encounter this necessity.
In order for any signatures to be witnessed, the attorneys or solicitors must permit the signatory to sign the document in their presence and offer the required attestation attesting to the signature witnessing. Additionally, the attorneys/solicitors offer a stamp attesting to their completion of the witnessing process. The person who needs the witnessing usually presents a valid passport or Emirates ID and signs the paperwork in front of an attorney.
The act of witnessing confirms to the appropriate government agencies, embassies, banks, and other parties that the person in issue did, in fact, sign the document themselves.
The difference between a lawyer and a notary public witnessing signatures in the United Arab Emirates may not be clear to everyone. It is significant to remember that in Dubai and throughout the United Arab Emirates, a notary public may only witness or attest to a limited number of papers. The document in question must also be translated into Arabic by legal translators who are properly licensed to perform legal translation of papers in the United Arab Emirates, if it is among the list of documents that can be signed before a notary public in Dubai or elsewhere in the country.
Memorandums and articles of organization, agency agreements, powers of attorney, and other types of agreements are among the documents that can be signed in front of a notary public in Dubai or anywhere else in the United Arab Emirates.
But usually, when documents are utilized outside of the United Arab Emirates, the notary public does not witness the signatures. Statutory declarations, application forms, immigration paperwork, bank account applications, contracts for the sale or purchase of real estate, etc. are a few examples of the documents that could be included. In the UAE, attorneys handle the witnessing process for certain documents.
